Baltic amber, also called "Northern Gold", is a conifer resin solidified about 50 million years ago in the areas of present-day Scandinavia whose climate at the time was very hot and humid.
These plants, having to defend themselves from many external aggressions, released large quantities of resin called "the tear of the pine" to protect the wounds and stop harmful aggressions.
Precisely for this reason it is possible to find pieces of amber with insects and fragments of leaves or herbs that existed millions of years ago.
To date, there is no longer any representative of this tree species: Pinus succinifera.
