The Pomegranate is present in the production of Sicilian jewels of the past and today in many treasures of the Sicilian Madonnas we find it as an ex voto, as a Christological symbol linked to the passion of Christ. It is said that from the forehead of Jesus during the Via Crucis, blood fell and was collected by one of the apostles who kept it in a bag. When the apostle subsequently opened it, he found a new fruit with a sour skin but which contained so many grains as red as blood and very sweet. The fruit, therefore, is linked to the regeneration and fruitfulness of humanity which is born of Christ's sacrifice.
